There are five main areas in the
 ‘Every Child Matters’
Initiative:
  • These are:


  • 1. Be healthy
  • 2. Enjoy and achieve
  • 3. Stay safe
  • 4. Make a positive contribution
  • 5. Achieve economic well being

I have used many of the Enrichment teaching resources in tutorial sessions for the following topics;

"Helping students to understand sexual..."
    • Helping students to understand sexual health with videos and discussion
    • Peer tutoring; what it is like to be a young  mum?
    • How the nurse can help?
    • Counseling
    • Having good eating and drinking habits
    • Helping them look after each other
    • Co-ordinated support to from other agencies

Enjoy and Achieve
  • Help them understand why attendance is important and how the S.A.M can work for them
  • What they can achieve and how it will benefit them in the workplace
  • Becoming a good team member and building  confidence with others
  • Making the most of their time in college
  • Receive help and support
  •    with learning

Stay Safe
How I have helped students understand the issues of staying safe
  • Talking about equality and Diversity; how do we make a difference?
  • Helping with issues at home
  • Bullying (what would you do?)
  • Discrimination (Put yourselves in their place)
  • Sexual exploitation (may be in the workplace)
  • Violence (who would do that?)
  • Crime (what is a crime?)

Make A positive Contribution
  • We arranged a charity day for the college charity
  • We drew up a class agreement on bullying
  • We devised tutor group agreements
  • We agreed that we would all be responsible for keeping the college and surrounding areas tidy to show the community that we cared
  • Positive behaviour was agreed as the general         public are always in our salons
  • We visited shows in London and Birmingham
  •     and arranged competitions between groups in             the college

Achieve Economic Well-Being
  • To feel safe in our college and working environment


  • Have a good lifestyle


  • Gain employment


  • Confidence


  • Have Application of number and literacy skills


  • To seek more avenues of education
